Formed in 2023, Smokey Trail Bandits is an all-Albertan blues and southern rock machine with grit, groove, and soul. Drawing from decades of collective experience, the band delivers high-energy performances rooted in authenticity, spontaneity, and reverence for the legends of blues and rock.
With original songs that blend heartfelt storytelling with raw, electrifying musicianship, the Bandits are on a mission to light up stages and leave a lasting impression.
Fronts the group on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, bringing raw emotion and authentic storytelling to every performance. His warm, weathered voice carries the weight of prairie winds and dusty backroads, while his songwriting weaves tales of heartbreak, hope, and hard-living that resonate deep in the soul. When Gabrial takes the stage, he transforms from soft-spoken frontman to a commanding presence that demands attention. His guitar work - equal parts delicate fingerpicking and thunderous strumming - provides the perfect foundation for the band's southern-tinged sound.
Handles lead guitar duties. A seasoned blues guitarist with countless shows under his belt, Tyler sits on the board of the Red Deer Blues Society and remains a respected figure in the Central Alberta music scene. His playing weaves between haunting Delta-inspired slides and electrifying Texas blues runs, creating sonic landscapes that can whisper like a midnight confession or howl like a prairie storm. Every note tells a story, with a touch that's equal parts technical mastery and raw emotional truth.
Holds down the drums. He commands the rhythm from behind the kit with thunderous precision and dynamic flair. An award-winning drummer and audio engineer, Cody's international touring experience alongside metal giants like Judas Priest, Nightwish, and HammerFall infuses his playing with a rare intensity and technical brilliance. When he's not touring with his full-time project Osyron, his return to the Bandits brings world-class percussion that elevates every performance. His "live-off-the-floor," groove-heavy approach creates a pulsing heartbeat for the band's sound, sometimes as subtle as raindrops on a tin roof, other times as powerful as a thunderstorm.

Currently, the band is hard at work in the studio, crafting their debut record, which promises to capture the grit and soul of their live performances. The first single dropped in July 2025, with more singles to come. The full-length album is set for release in early 2026.
While the core trio of Gabrial Morris, Cody Lee, and Tyler Boutin forms the heart of Smokey Trail Bandits, the band often expands its lineup to create a truly immersive live experience. Depending on the show, they are joined by talented supporting musicians on bass guitar, fiddle, saxophone, harmonica, and even string quartets or full horn sections when the occasion calls for it.
This flexible and dynamic approach allows the Bandits to tailor their performances. From raw three-piece sets to rich, full ensemble arrangements, we aim to deliver unforgettable shows that match the energy and scope of any venue or event.

Released in 2024 under Gabrial Morris' name, this track serves as a perfect precursor to what fans can expect from the Smokey Trail Bandits. Featuring all the same talented musicians who would later form the band, "Tight Blue Jeans" showcases the authentic blues and southern rock sound that defines their collective musical identity.
Released in the summer of 2025, "Callin' Again" showcases a different side of Smokey Trail Bandits. While the band is known for their heavy blues sound, this acoustic summer anthem came to life through Gabrial and Tyler's touring acoustic performances. A perfect patio drinking song that captures the laid-back energy of those intimate live shows.
Our first single of 2026, "Penny" was recorded live off the floor at Crooks Hollow Studios in Calgary. This track is a true representation of the live sound of the group - capturing the raw energy, authentic chemistry, and powerful dynamics that define Smokey Trail Bandits when they're at their best. Playing together in the same room, feeding off each other's energy, and delivering an unfiltered blues rock experience.
